This is the last post in the  series we have done  on  Thursdays that  outline the keys to a successful Engineered Sanitary Skid and Modular Systems project.  We will start a new series next Thursday on a yet to be announced topic.  Our topic today deals with what makes  high quality sanitary skid turn over packages.

Sanitary Skids:  What is Required for a Good Turn Over Package

Designing and building a quality high purity process skid is part of the equation.  Constructing a high quality Turn Over Package (TOP) ultimately completes the successful sanitary skid project.  A turnover package provides all the necessary documentation for system validation per the customer’s specifications.  It can also provide information on system operation and maintenance.

What makes a good TOP?  A nice looking set of binders with company logos in the sleeves is one thing.  Accuracy and content is another.  Here are some of the basic principles we use to continuously produce outstanding TOP’s for sanitary skids.

  1. A dedicated documentation specialist is assigned to produce the TOP.  This person assumes ownership from kick off to shipment.  You can think of this person as the TOP Project Manager.  Continuity of ownership always produces a better finished product.
  2. Turnover packages, by their very nature, can become very large and detailed pieces of work.  It’s critical to understand what the customer or end user is expecting prior to the beginning of TOP assembly.  Both content and format requirements should be discussed and agreed upon in beginning stages of TOP development. We make sure we understand the documentation deliverables prior to starting.  These deliverables are internally reviewed and discussed with customer if clarifications are required.  Content and format of the TOP is reviewed and approved by customer before the first page is inserted.  TOP’s should have no surprises.
  3. We have exhaustive internal processes to verify that all purchased components are ordered with the correct documentation requirements.  The component is not received until the documentation deliverables are complete and correct.  It is the documentation specialist’s responsibility to ensure that documents are received and accurate.  It is this level of scrutiny that prevents “bad” documents from being introduced into the TOP.
  4. The turnover package must be easy to navigate and all sections should be clearly labeled, not only to expedite the validation process, but for ease of use for all personnel involved with the system in the future.  All documents within the TOP must follow GDP guidelines (good documentation practice) per industry standards.

The integrity of a turnover package is extremely important. We have a profound understanding of the importance of the TOP to the client.  This culture makes everyone responsible and committed to producing an outstanding TOP.
